Real Estate Success For Realtors
There’s a grim statistic in the real estate world that nobody likes to bring up at dinner parties—the staggering failure rate of well-intentioned people who jump into this business.
There’s a grim statistic in the real estate world that nobody likes to bring up at dinner parties—the staggering failure rate of well-intentioned people who jump into this business. You’ve probably heard the numbers, and they aren't pretty. Most enter with big dreams, high hopes, and a fresh stack of business cards, only to quietly wash out within the first couple of years.
But if you ask me, there’s a quiet tragedy that’s even worse than failing out entirely. It’s what I call the "Catch-22 trap." It’s that bizarre real estate purgatory where agents make just enough money to keep from throwing in the towel, but never enough to actually excel or build a thriving, lasting career. You end up making too much to quit, yet not enough to ever breathe easy or call it a true success. Talk about a hellish quandary to find yourself stuck in.
And in seeing agents come and go, I’ve discovered the ONE single area where most agents take the “wrong turn” with their practices. Most of it is the “get your name out there” mindset that’s exploited by brokerages and their managers. You may think you are getting your name out there; in reality, you are getting the brokerage's name out there!
Many agents lack the business-building skills and systems required for success, and they lack an understanding of how to approach real estate from a “strategic” perspective.
Most agents are “single transaction-oriented.” They’re always looking for the next deal…the next client…the next commission. This “quick fix” attitude is pervasive in just about every sales profession, and it’s the leading cause of failure for salespeople.
You simply don’t have enough energy or time to make a lasting income from a one-off.
Every time you make a sale, you have lost your best prospect; you have to go out and get another.
Is that where you are now? Or, you have quite a few contacts, but no one is chomping at the bit?
I've been there, and I knew why; that is why I set up systems I could follow that would ensure I was not only staying in touch with past clients, but also attracting future business and becoming their Realtor of choice when they were ready to buy or sell.
Not very exciting, nothing you could create a television show about, just plain vanilla common sense, patience and under everyone's radar, except buyers and sellers!
